Dreambert and Bedsmith, two creatures of the Pi’illo species, wake up one morning with no memory of who they are, where they are, or how they got there. They find themselves in a strange house in an unfamiliar town, feeling lost and confused. Just as panic sets in, a strange man named Wonky appears, claiming to be their father. He speculates that they passed out the night before while watching TV, but before he can explain further, things get even stranger. A creature named Starlow, of the Star Sprite species, arrives and insists that she is their friend. She says that they had plans to meet, but Dreambert and Bedsmith have no memory of her or any such plans. Reluctantly, they follow Starlow outside, unsure of their surroundings. They wander around the town, acting as if they do not recognize either the surroundings or Starlow. Despite their confusion, Starlow continues to interact with them as if they have been friends for a long time. As she shows them around, Starlow patiently explains their supposed friendship and their names, attempting to reassure them. Dreambert and Bedsmith, however, remain disoriented and unable to make sense of their past or their connection to Starlow. As the day goes on, Starlow becomes increasingly concerned, initially thinking that they are just pretending to forget. But as their strange behavior persists, she begins to worry that there is something seriously wrong with their memories. Toward the end of the day, Starlow’s uncertainty increases, and she wonders if there is something more behind their forgetfulness. Dreambert and Bedsmith are sent back to the house where they woke up, and Wonky, still claiming to be their father, provides them with a bed that seems unfamiliar to them. Too tired and confused to protest, they settle in for the night. As they fall asleep, their minds fill with questions about who they are, their pasts, and the cause of their sudden amnesia. The mystery of their lost memories looms unanswered as they drift into a restless sleep, unsure of what the future holds.
